Ulcerative Colitis and living Lactose free

I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in December 2000 and it has been a real struggle. It’s rarely left me alone over these past fourteen years and the last two years in particular have been particularly troublesome.

We have tried various medications and treatments, our bathroom cupboard resembles a small branch of Boots. There have been numerous trips, and stays, at various hospitals, some planned and some sadly as emergencies. It is an ongoing battle and trying to deal with the illness whilst trying to carry on working and being a father of two young boys can often be a real challenge.

However, I have some good news! For the past three and a bit weeks now I have been on a lactose free diet and I am pleased to say that I am starting to see some positive results with symptoms beginning to settle down. I just wanted to put it out there for those of you who are also battling Colitis, Crohn’s or any other form of inflammatory bowel disease as it is something you may also want to consider.

Fingers crossed this new diet will help put me into remission for a while!

All the best

Steve
